Fake prizes, draws and inheritances
How it works
- A message or an email announces a prize, a draw or an inheritance from a relative you never met
- You are sent to a link or a WhatsApp number to “claim” the sum
- Processing, release or shipping fees appear and keep growing
- Sometimes you are also asked for your card details or a copy of your ID
Warning signs
- You did not enter any draw, yet you “won”
- Huge sums, in millions, offered to a stranger
- A fee is requested before you get the money
- Contact only through WhatsApp, Telegram or a site with a strange address
What to do
- Do not pay any fee and do not send copies of documents.
- Look for the contest on the company's official website, not on the link you received.
- Delete the message, block the sender and report it.
- Already gave your card details? Call your bank and have the card blocked.
